30 Days of Thanks: Day 18

Today is my Gran and Pop’s wedding anniversary. They were married on November 18, 1950. She was 19 and he was 23. That was 62 years ago and they are still happily married today. Six decades, two children, two grandchildren with two in-law grandchildren, three great-grandchildren with two more on the way, and one constant abiding love. That’s pretty amazing and it’s entirely beautiful.

Today, I am thankful for marriage.

On my grandparents’ 62nd anniversary, I am reminded of what it truly means to take vows and make a lifetime commitment in marriage. Gran and Pop have been together through the valleys and the peaks that life has put in their path and they’ve done it together. I’m sure it hasn’t always been easy, but I have seen them go through it all while still loving one another. I also know that even when they haven’t particularly “liked” each other for a little while, they always love each other. They have been the strongest example of commitment than I’ve been blessed to see throughout my lifetime. I am so thankful for Gran and Pop, as well as their marriage and commitment to one another and their family.

I am very thankful for my own marriage. As I said in an earlier post, Mickey and I got married one year and three days after our first date. If you had asked me a year and four days before our wedding date if I would be married then, I doubt I would have thought to say yes. But, it worked then and it still works. All in God’s timing, right? Like all married couples, we have our moments where we might not necessarily “like” each other at the time, but we love through it all. That’s what it’s all about. It’s about celebrating in the awesome moments and loving through the challenging ones. It’s about taking those sacred vows to heart for a lifetime. I am so thankful that God gave Mickey a heart to put up with all my craziness for this journey through life. That’s for sure!

Today, I celebrate and give thanks for my grandparents’ 62nd anniversary. I am also thankful for my own marriage and for the great marriages of those family and friends around us that are also happily and faithfully married. I would also like to say that for those that are not yet married, it’s worth the wait. When you have that right someone in your life, it’ll be worth everything.

Blessings,
Kelly
