Awake My Soul and Sing…

March 9, 2009 By kelly 1 Comment

Today is a beautiful BEAUTIFUL day. It’s one of those days when my soul feels happily full and absolutely alive.  I just love these early spring days. The temperature today is in the high 70s, the sun is shining, flowers and trees have blossoms and blooms, the birds are singing – it’s positively glorious. I just want to soak it all up. Ahhhhhhh!!

I have enjoyed today so far, in case that wasn’t obvious. I even felt energized enough to go ahead and do my Biggest Loser Boot Camp work-out. I did levels one and two. WHEW!! Y’all, that was such a work-out. I was sweating after level one and dripping after level two. I even did the modifications on most of the level two exercises and it still worked me to pieces. All I cay say is that I am GLAD to be done and PROUD of myself for getting it done.

I did a little bit of shopping today too. I found some CUTE little transitional outfits for both girls. TJ Maxx and Marshall’s have some adorable capri sets (or similar) that are nice quality without breaking the bank. So, the girls are thrilled to have cute new outfits. Now, granted, this week is going to warm up a little bit more and then turn cool again, but at least we’re better prepared for the warmer days now. Spring is on the way. Yahoo!!

I promised the girls we’d go outside to play. So, I’m going to wrap up this blog entry and head out to enjoy more of this amazing day!

Blessings,
Kelly

Beautiful Day

March 8, 2009 By kelly Leave a Comment

We are in the midst of a beautiful day here. Right now the temps are in the high-60s and heading for the mid-70s. Nice. Love it!! Our family is going to head down to the zoo afterwhile to spend some time outside enjoying this gorgeous weather. Can’t wait!

The only drawback of this day is the silly time change. Seriously, WHY does the time have to change?! Ack. It’s just not good. I’m thinking that the people of Arizona have it right by leaving the time alone. I will say that, thus far, this change hasn’t had a major impact on us, but…still. It was just not cool to have to set the clock forward an hour at bedtime. A girl like me that loves her sleep doesn’t want to lose any. (lol)

All time-change ranting aside, I’m thankful for this day. Early spring days are some of my favorites. I just love the warmth and the promise of spring and summer to come. I’m anxious to soak up as much of this day outdoors as we possibly can. Ahhhh!

Blessings,
Kelly

Our Date Night…

March 7, 2009 By kelly 2 Comments

Mickey and I had a date night last night. The girls were excited to have a sitter come over and we were excited to get out on a date. We decided to go to The Melting Pot which was a rare and wonderful treat for us. We haven’t been there in probably four years or so. It was nice to go back again last night. We thought about just doing cheese and chocolate, but we decided to go for the meal since we were hungry. It was delicious! We started with their cheddar cheese fondue which was so good! The cheese was brought out with bread cubes, Granny Smith apple slices and some raw veggies. My favorite was the apple slices with the cheddar. YUM!! After the cheese course, we had our salads. I went with their Caesar and Mickey went with the Chef’s salad. I hadn’t had their Caesar before and it was very good. They put pine nuts in their Caesar salad and the pine nuts have been roasted and rolled in sugar. It’s very different and very good!! For our main meal we had chicken, shrimp, cedar plank salmon and two cuts of steak. (Mickey, of course, ate all the steak) In addition we had potatoes, squash, broccoli and mushrooms. Fantastic! Of course, the best was last – the chocolate fondue dessert. We had their classic which is chocolate with chunky peanut butter melted together. Heavenly!! The items we had for dipping with the chocolate were strawberries, bananas, Rice Krispie treat pieces, marshmallows rolled in Oreo crumbs, marshmallows rolled in graham cracker crumbs, pound cake pieces, brownie pieces and a slice of cheese cake. My goodness, it was all fantastic! We left there positively stuffed and happy!!

After dinner, we were too full to do much of anything except walk around somewhere. So, we decided to go to CostCo. (Big night out, right?! Ha!!) It was actually fun just walking around and hanging out together. We got to OOOH over some amazing high-def televisions. I will admit that I don’t see the big deal about high def, usually. I mean, it’s a bit better, but I’m okay with what we have. However, last night we saw a Blu-Ray movie playing on a high-def TV at CostCo and all I can say is WOW. Now I see the big deal. But, so far I’m only saying that about Blu-Ray. We picked up a few items we needed at CostCo and headed home.

It was a great date for us. We almost never go to Melting Pot because it’s somewhat spendy and we try to be frugal. I will say that it was really nice to go there last night and treat ourselves like that as a rare and special treat. We likely won’t go again for awhile, but that’s okay because we’re still full from last night anyway. (lol)

Book Review – Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry

March 7, 2009 By kelly 2 Comments

lonesome_dove

I just finished reading Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry. I usually read Christian fiction, but have wanted to read this book for awhile, so I finally did. This was a great read. I hated to finish the book in many ways. The story-telling was masterful, the character development was superb and the storylines all tied together flawlessly. Overall, I found this book to be incredible. There were some instances of crude language, violence and many sexual references. Those, to me, were just a part of the story that went along with the old west. A wonderful masterpiece of a novel!

Today’s Post…

March 6, 2009 By kelly 2 Comments

I couldn’t think of what to call this post – thus the lame title. (ha!!) I just didn’t want to miss a day of posting. I have done so well about posting daily and I have just been SO busy today that I haven’t had time to sit down and properly post.

So, this is very likely the only post I’ll get done today. Besides “saving face” by posting and not missing a day, I also wanted to wish everyone who reads this a HAPPY WEEKEND!!

Blessings,
Kelly
